Balance: trusting and trying
Speaker: Ruth Brown
Notes
"Work as if everything depends on you and pray as if everything depends
on God."
Story of Esther, highlighting ways in which she had worked hard to make
things happen (e.g. taking advice, days of preparation, organising banquets)
and ways in which she trusted in God to do the impossible (e.g. patience,
risking her own life, inviting Haman).
Application
What one thing from the story of Esther do you find most inspiring or
challenging?
Is your natural tendency more towards trying hard or towards leaving it
to God to sort out? Can you think of examples of when you've had to do both?
These are the "valid extremes" we should hold in balance. What would
going too far to one extreme or other look like? How can we make sure we don't
go there? How can we help one another to keep in balance?
