Notes

Worship is doing things that show what God means to us. Worship is saying and showing how great God is. It also involves bowing down in submission and adoration before him.

We can worship with music and praise, in church or on our own. Worship is also doing what is right, being kind, living humbly, obeying God, thanking and praising God all the time (Micah 6:6-8, Heb 13:15-16, Col 3:23). When we do things that glorify God, put him first, and show others how wonderful he is, that is worship. We can use our whole bodies and whole lives to worship.

Rom 12:1 Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to Godthis is your spiritual act of worship.

Worship is our response to who God is and what he has done. Romans 12:1 is a response to 11 chapters of how fantastic God is and the wonderful things he has done. See Psalm 103 too.

If it is hard, don't set out to worship. Instead, remind yourself what God is like and what he has done. The Holy Spirit lives in you and you will respond to this with worship. Try it. Make time for it. Then go live your day and live it right, and that will be worship too.

Application

Some slightly random questions to choose from, in no particular order.

  • How can you worship God tomorrow?

  • How can you turn mundane jobs into worship? Or things that you think or say, or choices that you make?

  • What impresses God?

  • Do you ever worship God, and feel nothing? Does that matter?

  • How can we show that God is worth everything to us?

  • What do you find hard about worship? What would help?

  • Look at the story of Jehoshaphat in 2 Chron 20. What can this tell you about worship?

  • Look at how Job worships in Job 1.

  • What is the God that you worship like?

  • What does God do while you worship him?
