Title:Courageous Leadership

Values: Mission-minded

Speaker: Colin Boyd

Notes

Matt 28:16-20, the "Great Commission". The promise of presence.

Acts 1:8, the promise of power and instructions of tactics.

  • Reaching out is an act of obedience but we are not on our own.

  • Do not abandon first steps when you go on to the next - you need a strong home base.

  • Beware of an inward looking church that answers the questions that people are not asking. [Demonstration] A church society should be a demonstration of the Kingdom. The Warehouse image of the Church.

  • Looking out to your neighbours and the need for example and at times humility.

  • Looking out to your community. Taking opportunities of serving with other denominations. People are looking for friendship and a saviour rather than a denomination.

  • Do not presume that Europe is an unneccessary mission field.

  • Different patterns of being called and need to support those who are called.

Christ and his gospel must be taken from our homes to our neighbours, to our community, to our nation and to our world. Long live the Holy Warehouse!

Application

How can you demonstrate the Kingdom to your immediate neighbours without being accused of 'bible bashing'?

"Blessed are the Peacemakers". How much relevance has this in our reaching out? What are the risks?

Read Matthew 5:43-48. Is this a helpful guide to a church that seeks to look outwards.

Read Luke 10:25-37. How does this help you to reach out to 'neighbours' whose beliefs, practices and values are different to your own? This may be nations or it may be immediate neighbours.
