Preaching Christ crucified

Speaker: Matt Hall

Notes

The Bible says that we are all sinners (Rom. 3:23). This means that we have all offended God. We have all broken His law and are guilty of having sinned. Because of this, we are dead in our sins (Rom. 6:23; Eph. 2:3), and will suffer damnation (2 Thess. 1:9). We are separated from God (Isaiah 59:2).

We are all born into a world where we all have a relationship with God. God is not separated from any of us. It is whether or not the God who is near, is near to us in wrath (Eph 2:) or in forgiveness (Eph 2:7). This relationship of forgiveness is reconciled through Christ.

Rom 3:22-24 "This righteousness from God comes through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no difference, for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified (regarded, or treated as righteous and worthy of salvation, just as if I’d never sinned) freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus."

Application

So we need the Gospel, but what is a biblical representation of the Gospel. Look at Corinthians 15: 1-4 and Acts 8:12.

Discuss the following aspects of the Gospel and why they are significant:

  • The Son of God, Jesus Christ

  • The Cross

  • The Resurrection and Ascension

  • The Kingdom of God

  • The Word

What does Mark 16:15-16 have to say about preaching Christ?

How should we prepare ourselves for preaching Christ?

How would you give a 1 minute Gospel?
