Fasting - the discipline we love to hate
Speaker: Ruth Brown
Notes
Voluntary abstinance, usually from food but can be from other things, for the sake of spiritual purpose.
Reasons to fast: to centre on God, to express grief, repentance, confession.
Food fasts can be normal (Matt 4:2), partial (Dan 10:3) or absolute (Esther 4:16)
Private, corporate (Acts 13:12) or national (2 Chron 20:3). Modern day examples, e.g. Sept 1940.
When to fast? When God says! For breakthrough or for self discipline.
Duration - 1 day to 40 days.
It's a normal spiritual discipline. It's for us and for God. It changes situations and it changes us!
Application
Why do we so dislike fasting (or are you the only person who doesn't)?
