Teaching Scripture to children
Speaker: Ruth Brown
Notes
Passing things on to the next generation, investing for the future. Exo 20:6, Mal 4:6. Anointing and blessing increase down the generations.
Knowledge, skills and attitudes (Ps 78:5-6)
Teaching your children - talk about God's ways and principles in the every day life situations. Deut 6:6-9 talks about hands, foreheads and doorframes - this is about 24/7 lifestyle teaching. Talk, memorise, proclaim.
Timothy's example (2 Tim 3:14-15, 1:5, Acts 16:1). Start young. Mother and grandmother. Don't use circumstances as an excuse. Don't leave it for Sunday School.
Jesus' attitude to children (Matt 18:5-6). Encourage child-like faith. Value of all-age environments.
God's promise (Prov 22:6). Everyone has free will, but invest what you can and keep the relationship.
Application
Who are the children or the "next generation" with whom you have some influence and can pass on your knowledge of God? Who has been a spiritual parent to you in your life?
What have you found that works well as a way of passing on the truth of Scripture?
What can we learn from the way Jesus treated children?
